NEIGHBORHOOD IMPACT

Neighborhood Impact is a ministry of local churches working in collaboration to bring about transformation in the Antelope Valley. We adopt individual neighborhoods in our community and share the love of Christ by meeting their physical, emotional and physical needs in practical ways. Our efforts are supported by the City of Lancaster and we have a strong working partnership with them.

Central has adopted the Trend Neighborhood located between 35th St W and 40th St W and bordered by Ave L and the Prime Woodland Preserve. Initially, prayer walks were conducted and then various outreaches such as barbecues were held so as to connect with the residents. We also cultivate relationships with the schools in the area. Currently, there is a community garden that has been planted and a community house where ministry for the youth is held during the week.

The community house is at 43028 Guyman Ave.

  • After School Program

There is a calendar of activities for the Trend youth every Thursday during the summer which includes a hang-out time, snack, art or craft time for the girls and basketball or skating for the boys and a Bible lesson. The time is from 2:00-3:30 p.m. and children from K-12  are welcome. In the fall, we will begin tutoring sessions.

  • Community Garden

This vegetable garden was established in April 2010 and has produced a bumper crop already. (insert pictures) There will be 3 plantings every year and the purpose is to turn the garden over to the residents in the community and to have a farmer’s market in the future.

  • Wellness Clinic

Neighborhood Impact has partnered with Antelope Valley Partners for Health and the City of Lancaster to provide a place for the residents in each adopted neighborhood to come for free health education, immunizations and heart, blood pressure and diabetes checks.

  • Sports Program

We are working on developing a sports program for the youth at Trend that will include basketball, monthly clinics and other activities.

  • Work Day

Every October, our church has a work day where the homes and schools in the adopted neighborhoods are painted and refurbished. (insert pictures) Over 126 homes have been painted and tons of trash has been hauled away.

  • Prayer Walk

Once a month, a prayer walk is held in the neighborhood to pray for the residents and the schools.

CENTRAL VAN MINISTRY

This ministry exists to provide transportation as an outreach to the poor or elderly in the community who do not have a ride to church. The pickup locations are Palmdale, Lancaster and Rosemond. Currently, the pickup times are for the Sunday morning 9:00 and 10:45 AM services.

THREAD ZONE

We are happy to provide clothing for children where there is a need whether it is within our church family or in the community. Donations of children’s clothing are accepted for sizes birth through 5th grade.

COMPASSIONCONNECTION

Compassion is reflected in the heart of Jesus. It should be a function of the Body of Christ. The Compassion Connection ministry exists to provide a link between those willing to serve and those in need. There are two ministries under this umbrella. They are:

  • Acts of Kindness

This ministry focuses on elderly, widows and single parents who need furniture or cannot afford to pay someone for small construction projects or home repairs.

  • Food Pantry

We have an on-site food pantry that is supplied with groceries given by the church family at Central to meet needs in the community when a family faces a crisis. Donations of food are always needed.
